Here are 10 ways to promote your website and get some exposure:

1. Search engine optimization

Optimize your website to increase your chances of getting top rankings in natural search engine results. Research keyword phrases and use them in your website. Put your phrases in your title, meta tags, intro, body, end, and link text.

2. Article writing and press releases

Submit articles and press releases related to your website and include a link to your website in the resource box at the bottom of your article.

3. Link exchanges and link directories

Exchange links with webmasters who have sites related to the topic of your website. Search for link directories where you can submit your URL for free.

4. Traffic exchanges

The idea of traffic exchanges is that you visit other sites in return for people visiting your site. Traffic Swarm is an example of a traffic exchange.

5. Blogging

Search engines tend to like blogs because of the quality content. Setup a blog related to the topic of the website and post valuable content on a regular basis. Use pinging and tagging to increase your traffic.

6. Forum Posting

Post to related forums with a signature that includes a link to your website. There are many out there. If you want to find some, just search on Google for +forum

7. Social Networking

These are sites like DirectMatches, AdLandPro, Ryze, and MySpace. Find people with related interests. Make friends and invite people to your site. Post your link to your website on your profile

8. Email Signature

Put a signature in your email that includes a link to your website. You probably already send emails, so why not use that to increase traffic?

9. Word of Mouth

Tell everyone you know about your website, like friends and family. You can ask them if they would to give their opinion about your website.

10. Yahoo Answers

Find questions related to the topic of your website, answer them. If you consistently do it, you can build up your reputation and attract people to your website.

Post a link to your site everywhere you can, but avoid spam. This will just annoy potential users. A good idea is to inform sites such as google, yahoo, myspace, bebo and the like. Myspace also has a group feature you could utilise, by adding details for the official website and enticing them over to it. Google generally takes a while to show up any website that isn't linked of others. A good way to solve this is to try and join a link swap program with other similar sites. Like a banner exchange, where they show your banner in return for you showing theirs. Some sites don't even require you to use their banner. You could also put the link into signatures and such in forums you are using to let people know what's there. Make the banner/info clear and to the point, to make people want to check it out. Good luck!

Hi. derickyung's answers are spot on - particularly 10. You should also think about creating lots and lots of content for your site too - this will help with search engine optimization and link building.

Remember, though: online stores don't sell without content. Amazon has content - customer reviews - and so do other important ecommerce sites.

Content, content, content! :-)

Getting traffic is a combination of a lot of things. The key to success is to create great content that visitors want to use, search engines will love and other websites will naturally link to. Of course, it's easier said than done.

It is important to find out where your target market -- motorcycle lovers -- go on the Web and create a presence in those sites, either through buying ad spaces, doing featured article, creating partnership or doing link exchanges

You can use pay per click advertising in the search engines to reach audiences looking for your products. You can use Google Adwords http://www.google.com/adwords or Yahoo http://searchmarketing.yahoo.com

Here are some shoestring marketing ideas that can help you get the visitors you need at the least cost possible:

1. Create the best content you can with the best products you can possibly offer. Your content is your best advertisement - if visitors love your content, then they will go back and spread the word to others.

2. Make it easy for users to recommend your site. Viral marketing is very important -- and easy to tap on the Web. But give your users the tools. Get a Recommend this Site script from websites such as cgiscripts.com and similar directories of scripts. Some even go as far as giving incentives to those who recommend the site to their friends. If only 10 people go to your site, but these 10 people invite 10 more - that's additional traffic that you get for FREE!

Hostscripts http://www.hotscripts.com/PHP/Scripts_and_Programs/Site_Recommendation/index.html

3. Rank well in the search engines (organic search results, not the pay per click). SEs can be a big source of traffic. The key is to create the best content in your niche. If you have good content, other websites will gladly link to you and offer your site as a resource to their audience. Check the on-page factors and be sure to get linked from authority sites in your topic area.

4. Send out press releases. While outfits charge as much as $650 per release, there are free press release submission places on the Web. Press releases allow you to (a) attract media attention; (b) get more back links to your website without sending each website an email request; and (c) get more visibility especially if your press release gets in Google News or Yahoo News.

5. Submit articles. Write articles and submit them to websites accepting author submissions. You get exposure for your business; establishes you as an authority in your field, and allows you to get backlinks for your website. If 50 websites publish your article and it contains a link back to your website, then you easily get 50 links from a single article. The more links you have, the greater your chances for increasing your search engine rankings.

6. Improve your conversion. Getting visitors is one thing; getting them to buy your products is a whole different story. Read the article " How To Sell More on the Web: 30 Tips To Increase Conversion Rates For An Ecommerce Site " http://www.powerhomebiz.com/092006/ecommerce.htm for tips on how to improve your conversion rates.

7. Post a link to your site for free where it is allowed (always read the Terms of Use). Examples are:

Craigslist http://www.craigslist.com

Google Base http://base.google.com

Classifieds for Free http://www.classifiedsforfree.com/...

Text Link Exchange http://www.txtswap.com/
