I want to set up one of these about a certain subject that I know a lot about. I want to provide very helpful free info and build up a long mailing list and provide regular info. Maybe this leads to making some money by selling something but not the first goal. I want to have a lot of people that somehow get my weekly info. So what are your suggestions?

Start with a blog since those are usually free. Start adding content and blog for like 30 days and than submit them to directories. If you have a good niche and a following you can definitely make money using affiliate marketing.

In my opinion, both Website and Blog are having their own pros and cons.A well built Website is easier to navigate.A website offers a better browsing experience for those who are seriously searching for data. You can sell your own products in a website. But, it is harder to get back-links. On the other hand, A blog is easier to update if one is not good at HTML. It is easy to get traffic through blog. But, you have to write something for a blog everyday. So,if you are looking for traffic go for a blog.If you want to sell own products, look for a website.

Put up a Wordpress blog. Host it on your own domain. (Do not get a hosted blog.)

Create a free gift you can give away to get people to sign up to your email list.

Have a few different hooks on your blog pointing to your email signup page. For instance, a text link, and image ad, and a footer ad could all link to that signup page.

Split-test your signup page to make sure you're getting the best conversion rate possible.

That's the short version. :-)
