A few things to consider:
1. The newspaper is a dying medium. Younger people are reading it less and less, and the only people who still refer to the newspaper religiously tend to be 50 years and older. Plus, if you are trying to reach business owners, running an ad in the general newspaper not be a good idea - unless you were sure to position your ad in th business section of the paper. (You need to think about which part of the paper your customers will be reading, not your favorite part of the paper.)
2. The newspaper may be a good place to advertise your business, but I would avoid running an ad the Wednesday before a major holiday. For one, people are not thinking about catering their corporate event - they are thinking about their 4-day weekend. You would be better off advertising in a Wednesday edition of the paper that does not fall before a major national holiday.
3. If you want to reach business decision makers, compare the cost of running an ad in the newspaper with (for instance) dropping off a couple of fresh baked cookies for the receptionist with a card that explains what your business is about. You could deliver your cookies to businesses you think might be a good fit for your service. Doing something like this would tie-in with your business - cooking, and odds are good that the receptionist would forward your message to the correct party. Your informational piece could also offer a discount of some sort, if you wish. I think you might find this approach to be much more targeted than advertising in the newspaper, and your Return on Investment would be much greater.
I hope this helps. Good luck.
