I have experience, but don't have the funds to update my portfolio. I have to speak to the HR person, any tips?

Take the portfolio and some current samples. Everyone appreciates honesty and nobody expects a working class person to have unlimited finances. Just tell it like it is -- as if you would be talking to your mom or dad as the case may be. Most hiring decisions at the time of interview are 10% what you can do and 90% do you fit in with the people you will be working with. They have already determined you are qualified or they wouldn't waste their time with a face to face interview. Be you, just be you.
